Night markets in Pattaya

EN

Night markets in Pattaya are called “night” because their usual working hours are from 18:00 till 22:00-24:00. However, the fish market in the north of the city is an exception - it opens at 05:00 and closes at 09:00 in the morning.

To begin with, it is reasonable to buy fruits and different exotic food from street cooks and sellers. Most dishes are boiled or fried in charcoal grills for 5-10 minutes and you can watch the process of cooking. Here you can try fried beetles, caterpillars and silkworm larvae. There is a wide range of less exotic, but still traditional Thai meals - grilled chicken and seafood, homemade sushi, famous salad made from green papaya -Som Tam, soup with coconut milk - Tom Yum, fried pancakes with banana and mango. At night markets you can also have fresh shakes made of tropical fruit and ice, sometimes in unusual combination with Oreo biscuits or ginger. There is also a big number of souvenir stalls offering a wide choice of trifles and little things. For example, you can get a magnet with the picture of Thailand per 50 THB and 100 THB per 1 piece.

Night Markets

You will go past numerous stalls selling face and body masks, scrubs, soaps and other cosmetic products. At night markets you can often come across “special offers” - 2 items for 100 THB, 3 items for 200 THB or 6 items per 300 THB, etc. The purpose is of course to attract customers and make them buy as much as possible.

However, we recommend to be careful when shopping for jewelries at night markets as you can easily get a fake there. For jewelry shopping it is worth visiting jewelry factories in Pattaya.

At most night markets you can also get some cheap but medium and low quality clothes and shoes. It may seem unusual to tourists that Thai sellers do not always allow to try the clothes on, especially if these are swimsuits and underwear.

The main rule of shopping at night markets is you need to bargain because Thai sellers often set too high prices. However, you should ask for a discount with a smile and respect. It is not worth while bargaining when buying a smoothie for 25 THB. But if you want to get 3 smoothies or if you have been buying from this seller for a long time already, of course you have the right to ask for a discount.

At night markets you can also come across the services of massage, braiding, manicure. You can get these services right at the market.
